My May 5th ride

Friday was Serena’s birthday and I chose to spend it in a way she would both approve of and also give me a “not in a million years” look. I rode 48 miles between Kingston and Sequim, in the constant rain. She would have loved this print by Marvin Oliver, “Fireweed”. He sure loved Fireweed, and it’s done in his signature “embossed realism/printed ovoid” style.

I think Serena would have liked this. It kind of reminds me of a kobold.

It rained hard. It drizzled. It was rain thick and rained hard again. It was glorious because it washed over my tears and kept my face snot free.

Then I saw the manatee. She always makes me smile, and that day she had a festive hat on. I like to think it was for the birthday.

It reminded me that rain helps so many things live and thrive, even snails. It even makes a bridge softer.

On the way back, we had a nice walk on the beach, like I used to do with her, looking at tiny things. Crabs freaked her out but I think she liked them.

Of course we planted a sticker now that it was dry enough. I’m not sure how many people read these things, or even care, but I hope it lends some value to you all.
